What is the concurrent enrollment program?
The Concurrent Enrollment program is a partnership between Murray High School and Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) that allows students to earn both high school and college credit for courses taught most often by Murray High School instructors. Murray High School instructors must meet the same rigorous standards as any other SLCC instructor in order to teach concurrent enrollment courses.
As the name implies, individuals are enrolled as Murray High School and SLCC students at the same time. This means that in order to be eligible a student must be a registered student at Murray High School and an admitted student at SLCC.
Students are limited to 12 college semester hours per semester and 30 college semester hours per year (May to May).
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a student become admitted to Salt Lake Community College?
Students must complete the SLCC On-Line Admissions process and pay the college admission fee using a credit card. This is the same one-time only, non-refundable admission fee paid by any student attending SLCC. Admitted student are entitled to a SLCC student ID, placement testing, use of the Lifetime Activity Center, use of college computer labs, use of the SLCC libraries, student discount event tickets, and admission to college sponsored activities. In short, concurrent enrollment students have the same benefits as any other SLCC student.
A completed SLCC Concurrent Enrollment Student Memorandum of Understanding form is required before students can enroll into any concurrent enrollment courses.

How much does it cost?
The Utah State Legislature appropriates funding to pay the college tuition for Utah high school students. This funding allows each student to take up to 30 semester hours of college credit per school year (from May to May). Students are not allowed to exceed the yearly 30 semester hour maximum. The appropriated funding covers college tuition only and may not be used to pay admission fees, textbook costs, or fees for materials and supplies.
Murray High School charges a $20.00 textbook rental fee for each concurrent enrollment course taken at Murray High School, so that students do not have to pay for college textbooks. The cost for taking a 3 semester hour college course at Murray High School would include the $20.00 textbook rental fee plus any additional fees for materials and supplies. Students taking a 3 semester hour non-concurrent college course would pay $417.00 for college tuition plus textbook costs and any additional fees for materials and supplies.

What about college testing?
SLCC does not require a high school diploma or college testing for admission. However, placement test scores are required for enrollment into college courses. Students may use placement scores from the following testing programs: ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer CPT,
SLCC has contracted with the College Board to administer the Accuplacer Computerized Placement Test (CPT) for each admitted student. The cost for the initial testing is included in the SLCC admission fee of $40.00. The Accuplacer CPT has two subtests; Reading and Mathematics. If students are not satisfied with their testing results they may retake either of the subtests for an additional fee. Retaken tests must be paid for at a SLCC campus and administered at a SLCC Assessment Center.
